What Love Really Is.
“We love each other because he loved us first.” 1 John 4:19
Not every relationship you get into is sent by God, not every person you like is meant for you, and not every person you love will love you like Jesus says they should. I know that hurts to hear, but it is reality. You have to stop getting into relationships and expecting them to be perfect and to be the person meant for you. Sometimes relationships don't work, and it hurts us because we are human and we have emotions but that is normal. God can heal the broken parts in us. I always heard the quote, "we can't love someone until we love ourselves first" which might be accurate, but take it a step further, we cannot truly love someone until we fully give our lives and hearts to God. We love others because He first loved us. We love others by the way God taught us to love by showing us the example of Him loving us. Sometimes relationships take forgiveness, a lot of it. Next time you get in a fight with the person you are with, remind yourself to be as forgiving as Jesus was to our sins. No relationship you get into will be perfect, no human is perfect, but the way they treat you matters. Never take less than you know you deserve. The person that God has hand-picked for you will love you how Jesus loves the church. That is what a spouse is meant to do. You are worthy of love, but the first step to even understanding love is to grow closer to God and notice how He loves you. If you're in a season of waiting, maybe it's to teach you how you deserve to be loved. Here are some verses to reflect on today. “Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.” 1 John 4:18 “We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters.” 1 John 3:16 “For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her” Ephesians 5:25 “Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.” Ephesians 4:15
