You Can Only Run So Far.
““Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh, and deliver the message I have given you.”” Jonah 3:2
One of the stories we all heard in Sunday school if we grew up in church was the story of Jonah. Here's a refresher of the story, God called Jonah to go to Ninivah a place well known for its wickedness. Jonah did not want to do what God had called, so he ran the opposite way. He then boarded a boat to Tarshish hoping to escape from God's calling for him. As Jonah fell asleep on the boat a large storm came across and the winds began to blow, Jonah told them to throw him overboard because he knew the storm was because of him. The storm stopped at once when Jonah had been thrown overboard, and God had arranged for a great fish to eat Jonah, he was then eaten by the fish. Jonah began to pray from inside the fish, he cried out for God to save him. Then God ordered the fish to spit Jonah out. Then God told Jonah again to go to Nineveh, this time Jonah did as he was told. By Jonah going to tell the people of Nineveh that the Lord had planned to the destruction of the entire city in forty days, Jonah not only fulfilled his purpose but saved the people by teaching them to change their ways. See we have heard this story a million times but we have to really think about it. When God calls you to do something there is no running from it. You can either do as God told or God will put you in an isolated place where you will listen. You can only run so far from God before it catches up to you, which we see is what Jonah experienced. I'm not saying you will be eaten by a fish but you will come to a place where you're willing to listen to God. Today, open your heart to God listen fully to what He wants and do as He wants you to do. Your purpose is not only for your salvation but it will also help save people! You are called to bring others to Christ and that purpose God has for you is important. God loves you and only wants the very best for you. He doesn't chase us for punishment instead He chases us for our and others eternities. Here are some verses to reflect on today. “Now the Lord had arranged for a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was inside the fish for three days and three nights.” Jonah 1:17 “When God saw what they had done and how they had put a stop to their evil ways, he changed his mind and did not carry out the destruction he had threatened.” Jonah 3:10 “For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
