It's Friday!
“This all happened on Friday, the day of preparation, the day before the Sabbath. As evening approached,” Mark 15:42
In the early hours of our Friday as we compare it to as we speak about Holy Week. Judas had given them the signal to show them which one Jesus was by greeting Jesus with a kiss. When Judas done so Jesus told him, "My friend, go ahead and do what you have come for." Then they arrested Him. They pulled out a sword on Jesus, and He told them to put it away. He said, "Don't you realize I could ask My Father for thousands of angels to protect us and He would send them instantly? But if I did how would the Scriptures be fulfilled to describe what must happen now?" Then all the disciples deserted Him and fled. Jesus later on was brought before the highest priest, Peter followed at a distance watching from the crowd. The entire council was waiting to see who would lie about Jesus so they would have a reason to punish Him. They decided to send Jesus to the Roman governor, Pilate. In the meantime Peter denied Jesus when someone said he had been with Jesus. Then someone recognized His accent and Peter denied it again. Then Peter remembered what Jesus had told him of how he would deny Jesus. Peter then went away and cried. Judas took the money back to the Temple and then took his own life. He felt so guilty for what he had done. They gave the crowd the choice between Jesus and a well know criminal. The crowd chose the criminal and Jesus to be punished. Pilate wanted no part in the decision and said that the responsibility was on the crowd. Some of the governor's soldiers took Jesus into their headquarters and they put Him in a scarlet robe. They wove thorn branches together into a crown and put it on His head, they placed a reed stick into his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before Him and mocked Him. They put His original clothes back on Him and lead Him to be crucified once they were done mocking Him. They made Jesus carry the cross and they took Him to the hill of Golgotha. The soldiers gave Jesus wine mixed with a bitter gall, but when Jesus tasted it He refused to drink it. After they had nailed Him to the cross, the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice. A sign was placed above Jesus' Head that said "This is Jesus, the King of the Jews." The people passing by mocked Jesus and yelled things at Him. At noon, darkness fell across the whole land until three o'clock. At about three o'clock Jesus called out, in a loud voice, "My God, My God why have you abandoned me" and that was the last of Jesus' words. The earth shook, the rocks split apart. The veil in the temple tore which was what kept others from going to see the Arc of the covent. They took Jesus and placed Him in a tomb, Mary magdalene and the other Mary sitting across from the tomb watching. They placed Guards at the tomb so no one could enter. Today, when you read this think about how everything Jesus went through from the early hours of the morning to the evening and remind yourself everything that Jesus done was for you. When He was on the cross you was on His mind. He loves you so much that He payed your debt. You are free because of Him. Here are some verses to reflect on today. “For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.” Matthew 12:40 ““For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 “All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all.” Isaiah 53:6 “And the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.” Mark 15:38
